 · An intricate, deliberately idiosyncratic record, assembled piece by piece, Boulders perfectly captures Roy Wood's peculiar genius, more so than anything else he recorded. All of his obsessions are here -- classical music, psychedelia, pre- Beatles pop, pastoral folk ballads, absurdist humor, studio trickery, and good old-fashioned rock & roll -- assembled in a gracefully eccentric fashion/10().

 ·  · I'd like to find high quality CDs of "Boulders" and "Mustard." I have an Edsel CD of "Mustard" with 7 bonus tracks, and while it has much more high end than the rather muffled-sounding LP, it also has what sounds like noise-reduction artifacts (some transients sound phased--hard to describe, but it's not a sound I hear on the LP) and in general the sound is very thick and shout-y.

  1. A mixture of various musical styles all combine, making this a fantastic piece of musical history. Only Roy Wood would think of adding a cello to a rock n roll song and making it sound like it belonged there. Along with 'Mustard', 'Boulders' is the greatest solo album in modern music, and now that it has been re-mastered it is better than ever/5(58).
